those "windows" to the past showed one scene in which a family appeared to pray by linking hands and standing back-to-back. i've been told that, before, this has allowed some to hear a few messages, presumably from the gods of this world themselves. this sort of ritual doesn't seem to work anymore, and it's been some sine since it has.

i'm wondering if there's any other way in which we can try to commune with the gods of this world, be it by other rituals or prayer. [ Or, y'know.... sacrifice.... ]

or

if in your world you're able to speak with the gods, how do you do it? better yet, what gets their attention or intervention?

apologies if this has been asked before. i arrived last month.

[ Prayer really isn't a thing in his world, so it seems worth asking for any ideas. ]

I've tried the direct approach, but it never seemed like I got any results. And as far as I can tell, prayer is just a one-way conversation too. I've never heard of any rituals besides the hand-linking one, but it sure would be useful if we had something, right? It sure would be a help if the priests started remembering things like that.

thanks for the input, and yeah it would be helpful. i'm new here, but my impression is that so far these gods have been mostly quiet, aside from the above example. not criticizing, just wondering why that is and if there's anything we can do to do the reaching out ourselves [ Like being pro-active. ]

i've also heard that there's more than the four gods of the city. makes me wonder if there's a different way in which we may be able to contact them, too.

Criticizing them is fine. They won't do anything, or even offer a rebuttal, after all.

Oh right! There was something about that a while ago. Though considering the state of things, they might be dead already. Maybe a seance would work for that.

[ A... seance...? Not that he'd have any idea of where to begin with something like that. It's not a thing in his world. ]

it'd be assuming that they're dead. have you ever done one before?

It's not like it would hurt anything to try, even if they're not dead. I can't say I've ever done one myself, though. And I'm not a medium or anything, so it would be pure experimentation.

your guess is as good as mine. seances were more of an occult thing in my world. not real.

Oh, they're occult in my world too. [ but are they not real? ] I only know a little bit about them from research for some of my hobbies.

But I've met lots of people with real magic here, and witnessed extraordinary events that definitely couldn't happen at home. People have even gained powers it wouldn't have been possible for them to have in their worlds, so I figure nothing's necessarily off the table here. It's just a matter of figuring it out or being lucky.

you have a point, and it's probably worth a try if there's someone around who knows how to conduct one.

If I meet someone like that, I'll definitely let you know! I'd like to have a chat with the gods here myself, even if the ones who kidnapped us won't pick up the phone.

i wouldnt recommend it. gods are either self-serving or theyre looking at the big picture- u will either get an obtuse answer or hate what they have 2 say

but usually if they have something 2 say theyll make it known. good luck getting their attention otherwise

i'm guessing that's how they are on your world? does it always have to be on their terms, when communication happens?

A message for the gods? You'd deliver it for me? I wonder if I can say everything concisely, though. Let's see.

❁ You've done a terrible job, it's really pathetic, to the point that I'm embarrassed for you.
❁ Please send me safely home immediately along with two certain people of my choosing.

Those would be the basic points. Though to be honest, I do feel like it's the kind of message I should deliver myself if possible.

p much. i talked to 4 of my worlds gods & they just wanted 2 fight or give bad news every time

and they dont speak the same language so it just gives me a headache

[ .....Machina, in all honesty, had not considered that the gods here could speak different languages. Well, not the city's main four, but apparently the other two have yet to give any messages. Who knows if they'll be included in the universal translator. ]

so you're saying to prepare for a fight and/or bad time. [ Anyway. Moving on to what he really wants to know about different methods-- ]

i wouldnt say that. these gods might b totally different. but id expect bad b4 good i guess is what i mean

ummm its a long story but they contacted me first. im kind of an outlier for whats normal when it comes 2 gods

i didnt, but not 4 lack of trying. we had to find them, and they were faster @ reaching out to me first. probably bc of the whole divine omniscience thing

maybe something similar needs to happen here. to somehow find them or get closer to them first. i think it's worth trying. we can't just wait around for another message that no one knows when it'll come.
