[ It's somewhat late at night, and Rin is apparently out in the gardens, sitting under a tree and watching the sky ]

Rin's a bit lonely, with Miss Aqua gone. Mm, and it's hard to look for food here, when Rin doesn't know where she's allowed to take food from? Rin's just wondering... is there anyone who can show Rin what she's allowed to take?

[ Guess who is actually sleeping in the gardens about half the time, and ... probably pinching food wherever she can get it. What is money, she's never had it and has no idea how to manage it. ]

[It hadn't happened yet, but who knew when smart houses were just gonna start locking up after him. He gave the door a look as he closed it, as if daring it to try it now.

Onwards to the kitchen though!]

Have you used the replicators before?

[ She smiles up at him and shakes her head ]

Nuh uh. Miss Aqua used one, and Rin watched, but Rin doesn't really know how they work.

[Fair enough. If someone else was handling all the food, it made sense this wouldn't have been a detail to think about. He himself had only really started to get some cooking lessons recently, hence his initial replicator upgrades in the first place!]

Let's get you a crash course then. You won't really have to worry about taking food from anywhere once you know.

Nope! Though I bet you have more money than you think you do.

[This seemed like it needed to be a lesson too. Kai pulled his communicator back out to show her.]

[ She blinks and looks at the communicator ]

Uh huh. Miss Aqua showed Rin she could see what other people were saying on there.

Cool. Your buttons and stuff are probably like mine. So if you go to the one that looks like this--

[He pointed out the icon for the (Wallet? Bank account? $$$) and tapped on it. Check out those numbers.]

It'll tell you how much money you have. The shops all use this thing to take payments instead of coins and stuff.

[ She looks carefully at his and then hers ]

Like this? [ And Lo and Behold, she does have money on there. ]

So Rin just gives them her communicator?

[Thank goodness. Rin seemed like the sort that liked helping out, so Kai had been extremely certain she would have had a decent amount chunk of cash of her own if even he was well-enough off.]

More or less. They usually have little spots you can tap the communicator on, kinda like the one outside for unlocking your house. If you're not sure, I'm sure whichever shop keeper wouldn't mind helpin' if you ask.

So you won't have to worry about needin' to take anything. You're already pretty set.

Oh! But what happens when Rin runs out?

I don't think you'll have to worry too much about that. You get paid at the end of the month for holding hands and helping around the temples.

[ B U T . Kai pointed at the replicator.]

Okay! [ She scrambles over to watch carefully.

[He chuckled.] Really! Check it out when the month rolls over, you should see more money in there.

[But here it was, replicator town. Are you ready for vague explanations because who knows 100% what these look like here we gooo.]

So these ones should work just like Aqua's does. When you use them it will mostly pop out raw ingredients for you, so you might not be able to eat everything without cooking. Do you know how to cook anything?

[ Rin nods as she follows along ]

Uh huh! Some things. Rin's mostly used a campfire, but Lady Kaede was teaching her how to use the stove inside.

Gotcha. That's good! These stoves are probably pretty different at first, but they do the same things.

I'm a real lousy cook though, so I mostly got a lot of fruit and veggies out of this thing. Then I found out you can pay for new buttons.

[He pointed at the two that definitely weren't on Aqua's.]

Try pushin' one of those.

[ She nods, and eyes the buttons, and pushes the left one ]

[Behold: where normally raw ingredients would pop out of the replicator was now a fresh, enticingly hot plate of omurice. Look at that egg oval. Admire that red ketchup squiggle. So beautiful.]

There you go, an already cooked omurice. It's fried rice wrapped up in egg. Go ahead and grab that one, I'll get another one for me.

OOOOOOOOOOOOH!

[ She gasps in wonder ]

That... that.. is amazing!!

Right! It's really cool!

[Like legitimately! Really cool! Kai handed her the plate, nudging her off towards the table as he got another one going for himself.]

"Really really!" She nods frantically, but she's careful with her plate, not wanting to waste.

"Oooh, it even tastes good!"

[whenyouneedme]

He sat with her, grinning a bit more broadly at her. "It's definitely one of my favs, glad you like it." Liking it meant it was more likely Rin would seek it out

"So, if you're ever in a pinch and feeling hungry, you can come get some of these whenever you want, ok? I don't gotta be home or nothin'."

[morality_pet]

"It's really good!" She beams up at him and nods. "If Mister Kaito is sure? Rin doesn't want to impose..."

[whenyouneedme]

He shook his head. "You wouldn't be imposing. Like I said, I keep the door unlocked. You can come over whenever you want for whatever you need, okay?"

Okay! [ She beams and bows politely ]
