[Cue Ciel looking thoughtful over by one of the native-owned shops. It's a relatively busy part of the city so it's a good as place as any, he thinks, as he turns on his communicator.]

Do you think they'd object to us putting up a community board? Lost, found, looking for X, need Y. Beats pulling out a communicator constantly. Or if you forget it at home.

Surprised there isn't one already, honestly. Maybe all the ones they use are digitized these days.

If we only use one, though, where would we put it?

[Out by the central statues is the obvious choice, but the natives might not approve of that if it's too close.]

Since paper is so rare, a traditional board might be too expensive.

Perhaps a digital version that can still be accessed through this network, but with outside interfaces as well? Placing one near each temple might be good, if such a thing were possible.

I'm glad you think so. I know it might help people who come here who aren't used to technology on this level, as well.

I thought by the shops and such. Everyone has to go by them eventually. And it could be a singular board, saving resources and effort on both our part and the natives.

Real paper. Since we started arriving, the natives took our needs into account and started producing a synthetic replacement.

It would also be unfair to newer arrivals who aren't from a period with this level, or any level, of technology. I came from England in 1889, electric lighting was rare and expensive. Someone from before that might show up and have no idea how to operate it for some time.

No, but if we're going to be stuck here, I had it a good idea to think on how to contribute to the community and make things more accessible. I haven't got the funds to restart Funtom here, yet, so this is the best I can offer for now.

We'd need to keep it stocked with things to pin papers with, too. I don't think I've seen a stapler in this entire city...

I mean, I guess if you wanna throw fliers up and around like some sorta Craig's List, sure? Why not? You could go around, see what the natives need and try to match 'em to people here.

That's a shitload more work than I wanna do though.

That's a real important thing to remember! Worlds can be so different when it comes to technology. I've been to worlds where they don't got any, and some where they're way ahead!

I was born in a time, on Earth, when technology was still in its infancy. So I understand how lost some people could be.

I'm sure that if we asked, they could offer us options for what we could use. I'm sure they'd have considered something by now, with them adding new items to their shops and all to accommodate us as they have.

I have no idea what Craig's List is. [Still too far for him.]

That's fine, it's hardly required. And I'm certainly in no position to enforce something like that. I don't rightly want to be, either.

Would this be an 'ask anyone' case, or is there someone specific in the city we should talk to?

At a guess, I'd say the priests? They seem to be the ones who handle everything to do with us usually. At least, they rope us into their celebrations more often than not, I would assume this would fall within their responsibilities.

Well, inasmuch as we're the gods' responsibility, maybe they consider us their responsibility as well?

[Though that may be stretching the word in those cases...]

Do we all bring it up individually, then, or as a group? Not sure if any of them are checking the Network, either.

I'm sure it'll just be a matter of time! But it sure does take some gettin' used to... why, when I was a kiddo, screens were just for windows. And now we got them fancy computers and everything!

That is still fairly expensive though, isn't it? Though it is a more viable option.

It would be unfair if there was no one willing to teach them, but I cannot think of anyone that would refuse. It would be impractical for them to never have to learn since the whole city is so reliant on it.

It's a list Craig put together. [He says it completely deadpan as if that explains everything. It doesn't though. He knows that. So after a beat or two of silence, he laughs and fills in the details.]

He's a dude who'd take an advertisement you wanted and post it up. Need some mercs? Go find Craig's List. Got a problem with gerblins eating your pumpkins? Look up an adventurer on Craig's List. Whoever the fuck he was, he got around. He'd print out these fliers and just pop 'em up everywhere he went. Somehow managed to keep it all up to date, too, so you didn't go try to cash in on a quest only to find out some other jackass killed the person who requested it three weeks ago over a disagreement about cheese.

That's about the line of thinking I've been following. If not them, they'll be able to direct us.

A group would most likely ensure their attention to the matter.

That sounds about what I was accustomed to before I went to Riverview. I was lucky to have a few people who helped me learn after a few too many fumbles.

But not a fortune. We're hardly being offered gilded pages, after all.

And I never that no one would learn. In that same vein, it's entirely impractical to simply throw them to the wolves and expect them to adjust immediately to technology they may have no experience with.

[Ciel just gives him the most deadpan of looks. He gets the feeling some of that is bullshit but he really couldn't guess how much or how little.]

The general idea would be that it would be community managed rather than one person. And, preferably, would not involve hiring mercenaries or anything unsavory though I'm aware I couldn't control that.

Hey now, don't knock a mercenary. They're just out to make a buck or two like any of the rest of us.
