A Belated Birthday - video and action options
video
[At least Keith knows how to keep a feed steady on his face. He's had a lot of practice at this. His voice is somewhat hushed, and he is in a darkened room, glancing back over his shoulder before he finally clears his throat and starts to speak.]
It was Lance's birthday on Sunday. And I totally forgot, and I think it might have hurt his feelings. So. [He takes a deep breath, glancing back behind his shoulder again.] I guess I'm going to throw him a late birthday party, so he stops sulking. Please, everyone, I could use some backup here. If you could just show up at the house this afternoon for a few minutes or something, that would be great. You don't have to know us. He'll just be happy to have people paying attention to him.
[There's some noise behind him, and he looks back again before standing up hurriedly and speaking in a hushed voice.] Okay, Keith out.
action
[Keith is pretty sure that Lance is aware that something is up, because he's been running around like a madman setting things up for what he hopes to be at least a decent little gathering. With luck, people have heard the message and will show, and that should help Lance feel a little better. Not that Keith cares, of course. He just wants his roommate to stop making snide comments.
By mid-afternoon, he's managed to set up a table with some food -- of questionable quality, but still edible -- and found a bot to play some music quietly. It's not like any sort of music he's ever heard, honestly, but it'll do the trick for now, hopefully.
Now to wait and pray that someone actually shows. Even better if they bring something with them.]

Thank you! And pfft, of course Mr. "I spent two years in a time vortex and came back all bigger and grizzled and cool" would say that. He...really is quite the friend, though. Honestly, this is the last thing I would have expected him to do.

Time vortex? You just dropped that in there, but isn't that a significant backstory reveal . . . ?
[He tilts his head over in Keith's direction, trying to judge how grizzled and cool he looks. Hmmm.]

Guess it is, but it's something you'd have to ask him about. I don't want to spoil the story.

[He skims the party scene again. It really is pretty impressive what Keith managed to put together on short notice and with very limited resources. The power of friendship indeed.]

[He's just delighted people are here, and hasn't thought much past that point.]

[And so are the people trying to please them, seriously. This guy seems like a good friendship match for the grumpy grizzled one Magolor had had a hell of a time trying to open up at the ribbon party . . . opposites attract.]
Well, then how old are you? Human ages are pretty alien to me! I can't tell by looking at you guys.

I know exaaaactly how you feel! At this point, I couldn't tell you how old I am anymore. Keeping track from dimension to dimension is a headache. I didn't know you were travelers, though! I don't meet many humans out and around the universe.

[Bit lonely, but oh well.]

My ship can travel between dimensions in the blink of an eye! At this point I've visited more than I can count on one hand. . . . Usually not against my will, though, so this planet's a little different. Hey, I want to hear all about your travels too! Earth's kind of the boonies, as far as the universe goes, so it's pretty impressive you managed to get off of it without a fancy ship like mine.

[He smiles fondly.]
It's a reeeeeeally long story that involves a ten thousand year long intergalactic war. Earth's technology let's us get to the edges of our solar system, but it was alien tech that got us waaaaaay far out. We pretty much stumbled across it. No, not it. Her.

[Not it, her! Hook, line, and sinker! He can't not get excited about stories of stumbling across intergalactic alien tech; Magolor drifts closer in the air and weaves back and forth excitedly.]
I know, I know, it's your birthday party, and I'll bet your dance card is pretty full today. But I want to hear this reeeeeally long story sometime, got it? I just love a good technological romance.
no subject
Oh, definitely! It really is a story worth telling. One of these days we can get together for lunch or something, and I'll tell you all the deets.

[He says, knowing full well that Keith never reacts well to him, and it would probably be hilariously awkward to have him there—in other words, a win-win situation. But he says it with a friendly smile over in Keith's direction.]

[BFF, huh...]
