In my world, Lilin tried to complete "Instrumentality Project". In Instrumentality, the flaws in every living being would be complemented by the strengths in others, thus erasing the insecurities in people's hearts. No one would ever perish, no one would ever leave, and everyone would understand everyone, deeply. 

No insecurities in people's hearts, no hatred and no confusion. Your mind would be at peace. True Paradise.

In Instrumentality Project, you’d have to lose one thing and one thing only, which is what brings you so much pain: individuality. All souls would be gathered and united as one. This would create an existence where nobody exists singularly, but merely as part of the whole.

Would you accept it? Would you prefer eternal happiness or your individuality?

Some would say not feeling pain is the point. The pain of loss, the pain of insecurity, the pain of misunderstandings and the pain the unknown might bring.

Despite that, would you still refuse it?

I dunno. Pain's the only reason I know I'm still around. Doesn't really seem like living if its just a vacuum.

Well I mean if I can't feel it anymore, then I'm probably dead.

Doesn't that apply to all other sensations and emotions?

Well, yeah... But if everything is just one thing then it's basically nothing. Happy stuff makes an impact if you know what hurting is like, hurting only hurts if you're fine in between.

Do you wish to be happy?

I'm already happy.

Do you fear losing that happiness? You have felt pain before, therefor, you know pain is a reality as well.

I'd rather have it and lose it than have it be meaningless.

If everything is just one thing then its basically just like white noise or whatever. That's what your instrumental somethin' sounds like?

One would often want to avoid pain. Which is why Instrumentality exists. [ because some guy couldn't get over the fact his wife died stares at Shinji's dad ]
