Video: CW: Language
[A disheveled middle aged man's face appears on the screen looking incredibly over it. Whatever 'it' is, he's been done with it since Friday and there's no end in sight. There's a large smear of chocolate running from just about his ear on his left side down his neck and along one side of a red hoodie he's wearing.]
Dammit! Damn this place and those creepy bears from god-knows-what! Where the hell am I? Voidtreckers, if you can hear me, my communicator isn't connecting me to the train!

What is this place?

What is this place?
Re: [video]
[One could only hope at least.]
What do you do around here? Do you have a job or area of expertise?
A moment or three of physical contact is typically sufficient to provide an income, albeit a somewhat limited one.
[And it does also require be willing to do so, which he understands not everyone might be (as he himself is generally not, outside of a few very specific exceptions.)]
As for my areas of expertise... aetherology, aetherochemistry, magitechnology, sorcery, illusionry, engineering - both architectural and otherwise, and military tactics and strategy. [A pause.] Ah, and an unparalleled ability to see into the Lifestream itself, plus some not insignificant experience with the political structures of my world.
[He rattles the list off as if it's nothing particularly out of the ordinary, despite that fact that - at least in so far as can be told via the video feed - he doesn't seem to be any older than about his mid-thirties.]
Re: [video]
He was mulling over the comment on the income until what's-his-face started listing his credentials.]
I'm sorry, I wasn't listening. Did you say librarian?
[He doesn't, entirely, sound offended. Perhaps a little put out, but not much beyond that.]
Although if you were having difficulty comprehending any of what I said, I should be glad to repeat it.
Re: [video]
No, I 'comprehended' just fine, you condescending prick.
Which of the research centers do you spend most of your time?
[He could, of course, be wrong, and has certainly not made much of an effort to try either. But in all fairness he's had any of a number of other things to focus on instead.]
Unless you had meant to ask which of those areas I have spent the majority of my focus on of late?
Re: [video]
That was the impression I was under too. However, I'd heard some people could slowly gain their trust and work in these research centers. With your background, I assumed you might be one of them. Am I mistaken?
Up until relatively recently I have been... somewhat wrapped up other matters.
That said, it would certainly be possible. It would take time and effort, yes. But it's hardly as if either of us would have any shortage of the former, at the least.
Re: [video]
That's unfortunate, I was hoping to find out just how long or what would be expected of us during this probation period? I'll be damned if I'm asked to bring a robot coffee, so to speak.
And speak for yourself, my time is quite valuable. What 'other matters' have you been doing that you're not going to need time for any longer?
[Admittedly, Emet-Selch might well do so himself, but he's hardly about to come right out and say as much.]
Matters that do not concern you. Or do you pry into the lives of everyone you meet?
[A bit more of that arrogance is back in his voice at that, though more as an undercurrent to the distinct bite of disapproval.]
Re: [video]
[He chuckled at that.]
Usually, yes. One of the few things that make up for dealing with the canker sore that is other people is that opportunity to learn about who they are and judge them shamelessly for it. You should try it sometime.
But it's alright Cruella, you don't have to tell me. I'd be reluctant to tell people if my 'other matter' was skinning puppies too and putting on women's black, satin gowns. Your secret's safe with me.
[This is offered completely deadpan - he might be serious, but he might also be returning the sentiment.
...On the other hand, it also means the note of disapproval is gone from his voice, and it remains so as he continues on.]
Surely you have things you would prefer to not divulge? Still, I should be glad to regale you with, say, some of the finer details of life in Garlemald should it be simply details you were after.
[The reference to Cruella, on the other hand, goes completely over his head and rather than ask, he chooses to ignore it.]
Re: [video]
[He's actually impressed the guy is still talking to him. He would've picked this fellow for a scoff and a hang up by now. That sort of makes him more interesting. His tone is fairly neutral to warm given the other crap he's been saying.]
Is Garlemald where you're from? I would be interested if that's the case or, I don't know, a name? I could keep calling you Cruella, if you'd rather keep that a secret.
[Those jokes have an audience of only one person and it isn't you.]
[There's a shrug to go with the words, casual as anything, despite the implications lurking behind them. Implications that he absolutely ignores in favor of brief blink as if he's just remembered that he hadn't introduced himself. (He has not, but he feigns it well enough for the reaction to be believable.)]
Ah, but where are my manners? Solus zos Galvus. Among others. [He bows at that, a deep and swooping thing that is almost certainly more dramatic than it needs to be.] Architect of any of a number of Garlemald's recent technological advances.
Re: [video]
Tony Stark, nice to meet you Sully. Do you have any notes on some of your designs?
Why should I have?
[He doesn't need them, after all, and up until now hasn't given much thought to sharing the details of his designs.]
I certainly suppose I could draw some up. But you may have trouble with the fuel - it's something native to my world.
Re: [video]
I would have no trouble with understanding fuel from another world, you prick. However, you being your lovely, douchebag self is giving me a migraine and I've reached the end of my patience. Good luck with that stick up your ass.
[He also sees some more bears coming this way so, it was time to abandon this conversation.]
