What is your favorite holiday? How do you celebrate it?

[Everyone comes from such different lands; their practices must be just as widespread, he reasons. There are candles lit behind him with small scrolls of paper at their bases.]

Furthermore, what day were you born? We should pay attention to such dates, I think.

[That way no one feels completely alone.]

Hello,

I will tell you of my favourite holiday, the Starlight Celebration.

The origins of the Starlight Celebration can be traced back several generations ago to Coerthas, near the beginning of the Dragonsong War. A series of battles between the Knights of Ishgard and the Dravanian Horde left thousands homeless and forced many Ishgardian children — now orphans — to endure the cold, bitter winds.

But each night a handful of Ishgardian knights would search out these children and offer them warmth and shelter in their barracks. This was forbidden by the knight's charter, however these knights did not care — many of them had been orphans themselves, and did what they could to help regardless of rules. They hid the children under the scarlet jackets of their uniforms and continued to do this each night for several months until there was a ceasefire.

The incident was soon forgotten by most, but those orphans the knights had helped did not. Once they were grown they sought to pay tribute to their rescuers. They dressed themselves in scarlet uniforms and began giving out gifts to the realm's children, hoping to pass along the kindness they had received when children themselves.

While Ishgard is closely associated with the goddess Halone the Fury, somehow over time the snowy-bearded captain of those kindhearted knights came to be associated with Nymeia the Spinner instead.

In more recent generations the old captain became known as the 'Saint of Nymeia', with children believing that this figure — immortal and unseen — delivers their wishes for presents to Nymeia Herself after they place said wishes in an envelope beneath a properly decorated pine or fir tree. His 'knights' became the 'Saint's Little Helpers' and are the ones tasked with bringing comfort and joy to children the realm over.

The folk legend of the Saint has been strengthened over the years by people swearing they have been visited by the man in the flesh, and given not just a gift but also succor in their hours of direst need as children.

The modern day Starlight Celebration is primarily handled by the Adventurer's Guild, with assistance from various other organizations and donations from an anonymous philanthropist. Willing adventurer's play the role of the Saint's Little Helpers and each year take up whatever task is assigned to them. Ideally this is to deliver gifts to the children, though occasionally there are odder requests.

Over the course of my travels I have found that the desire for children to have safe places to live and to play is near universal, though not every nation has the means to provide these things for all.

It fills me with joy to know that despite everything they may go through, people as a whole are good, and will do what they can to help those in need.

Without children there is no future. What use would be carving the path forward if there will be none to follow?

There are numerous orphanages in Eorzea, but if I live long enough to 'retire' I hope to build another that also functions as a school for all desiring education whether they be an orphan, a child, or neither.

I am unfamiliar with Cultivation or golden cores (and would not be opposed to learning of them), but I am glad to know there are others who wish to share their knowledge with the next generation.

I want to increase the rate of literacy, and to have specialists visit to teach science, medicine, and all manner of useful things to help improve society as a whole. My skillset is limited, but I have many talented allies who may be able to spare time.

It doesn't sound wholly dissimilar in concept to harnessing aether, though aether is the life energy found in all things and thus almost every person is capable of utilizing magic in some way.

Should an opportunity for a demonstration present itself I would enjoy learning more about this golden magic.

If we compare our magicks I believe my boyfriend would enjoy joining in. He is the most talented & powerful sorcerer in all my worlds, so would likely have more knowledge to share than me.

Likewise.

Solus' specialty is not something that can be taught, but it is always impressive to witness. He likes showing off when the mood strikes, and in exchange for learning more about your Cultivation I'm sure he would be willing to skip a nap one day.

Xiao? Is that similar to Xiǎo?

When one's hunger for knowledge is satiated what is left for them to do? It's good to be forever curious. To live is to always be learning.

When I was very small my grandmother would call me xiǎo yòushǔ. I know Nǎinai and Bàba, and my toy bunny is named Jījí, but I don't know the language.
