I doubt others know the extent of my work. At times it is best to stay quiet. However, I have given aid and contributed to the community even while disadvantaged. What I can manage with proper funding... It could certainly save many of the people here.
That would be a matter of other people's opinions. I'm a researcher, and how well-known or unknown I am makes little difference to the importance of my work.

The simplest way is physical contact. However, that would usually interrupt my work. It's more more efficient if someone simply touches me while I get my work done.
