Hello, I am Era.
While there is finally a medical clinic available, if anyone finds themselves in need of treatment and would prefer the aid of healing magicks, you are more than welcome to contact me.
I have a few questions pertaining to an unrelated topic, if anyone is both willing and able to answer.
» How does one plan a wedding?
» What are the customary traditions one expects to see at a wedding?
» What do you like most about weddings, if anything?
My thanks for any insight you may provide me.

talking to a magic lover who is a sponge for new information. he doesn't care.
Mages from home are able to use elemental magic and their own branch of magic, but the two are remotely related. For example, I'm a dark magician with an elemental focus of water. Another dark magician could use fire or air or earth. We don't have the other elements you talked about, like lightning or ice. Ice is just part of the water element and lightning magic is a specific branch like dark magic.
Most people only know one or maybe two types of elemental magic. Learning more than that is really hard. A lot of magicians believe it's impossible to be able to work all four types of elemental magic. To hear that in your would your affinity can be to three different types already is pretty amazing. It must give you a lot bigger repertoire of what you can do.
era loves magic sfm so he's in good company then haha
Within all beings — whether it be man, animal, or even plant — does aether flow. It is the spark which grants life to the lifeless. It is everything, always flowing within us and around us. Without it we would cease to exist.
It is life, and it is the source of all magic.
Aetherial energy can be divided into six distinct elements: fire, wind, lightning, water, ice, and earth.
Aether on the elemental energy spectrum can gain certain charges which affect its behaviour and power as much as its quantity and density.
There is the aspect, which is a measure of the imbalance toward one of the six elements. A minor aspect is common, however severely aspected aether can become unstable, making it dangerous to be in close proximity of it. The most common sign of this instability is the formation of weather conditions, such as umbral static or umbral wind.
Polarity is the measure of the element's activity (astral) or passivity (umbral). In my realm, Light is considered to be astral, and Darkness umbral.
In my partner's realm their elemental wheel is the other way around, and instead of 'astral' and 'umbral' they simply use Darkness and Light. I believe his realm has the right of it, if I'm honest — Darkness is growth, and Light is stasis.
If you're familiar with Earth's 'spectrum of light', you could consider the concept to be similar. Just as white light contains a rainbow of colours, so too does aether contain elements. Higher frequency light could be seen as active polarity, and lower frequencies the passive. Harnessing magic would be akin to using prisms to shift light into the specific colour you wish to see, and each discipline of magic would have its own uniquely faceted prism.
Or something like that.
That is 'Aetherology 101', though my realm doesn't really know about the spectrum of light yet.

Hopefully you won't be bothered by this question, but... Do mages in your world interact with each other much? Or get along at all?

And my apologies — Earth is the most common world represented in places like this. Not the same Earth, but ones that seem to be very nearly identical to each other. It's strange.
Mages interact with each other regularly if they are of the same guild, or of the scholarly sort, though those of different disciplines don't oft have reason to seek others out as they reside in different nations spread across the continent. The Conjurer's Guild is in Gridania, the Thaumaturge's Guild is in Ul'dah, the Arcanist's Guild resides in Limsa Lominsa, and the Astrologians are in Sharlayan. The Red Mages were nearly wiped out when their home nation fell to imperial rule, and I've only met four apart from myself — one of which was my mentor.
In ages past there were wars between varying nations of mages — the White Mages of Amdapor, the Black Mages of Mhach, and the Scholars of Nym. Mhach and Amdapor were the primary instigators, seeking to overthrow the other. Nym wished to remain neutral, and was summarily destroyed for it.
The overuse of magic caused the aether of my planet to become imbalanced. With offensive spells being used with more frequency than healing spells, the level of water aether within Hydaelyn swelled until the Great Flood wiped them all out. Since then, white and black magic have been outlawed, as they are magical arts fueled by the aether taken of the world, not of oneself. The other forms of magic draw from one's own personal aether reserves, and cause no harm to the surrounding environment.

But the lack of interaction isn't fueled by hate or prejudice of any kind?
[Was that how it had been at the start in his world? That the different groups simply separated based on ability and the animosity between them had grown later?]
Hmm. The mages in your world have fought too... Perhaps it's inevitable that different groups of magicians will always fight.

It has naught to do with magic, and everything to do with the nature of mortals. Our lives are too short-lived to truly comprehend past mistakes, particularly when records of the past are incorrect. We cannot learn from our history if we do not know it.

But I really could not say. I don't believe people are cruel by nature, just easily misguided.

The worst atrocities I've seen have stemmed from those in positions of power over others. So often they are filled with greed; the need for more. That inflated sense of purpose that comes from their authority and the near blind faith so many have in them.
But it all differs from region to region and world to world, and one can ever truly understand another's choices unless they've walked in their shoes.
Perhaps one day, the mages of your world will come to realize that their truest potential will only ever be found at the side of their brothers. Until then, I am sorry you and your ilk are so divided.

That's what the general goal is, but we've been working toward that goal for generations.

All that I can offer is hope that one day things will change for your world. Just continue ever forward, and carve a path for others to follow.
