Hello everyone, I have a question if I may be so bold to inquire.
I am curious with all the different worlds out there gathered here... How does one celebrate the date of birth. Is it worth celebrating even when it is it time of great sorrow? What are the traditions surrounding it?
I cannot offer much in return of such information, perhaps a hug or a song. Thank you for answering the curiosity of one as myself.

So formal!
[He said the exact same thing to her brother, ha. But he can't know the relation.]
Anyway, first things first. Isn't it even more worth celebrating if it's a time of great sorrow? Things being sad is the worst reason to back off of cheering everyone up!
Re: video
I only wish to be polite and proper, my lord.
[His words, she tilts her head at them.]
But even then... It would be hard to forget the tragedy.

Did some tragedy happen on your birthday . . . ? Fair enough, I guess. But that's no reason to forget that something great happened too. You were born!

You can say that. I am glad that I am not the only survivor of it as my brother is here as well.
[She goes to let out a slow sigh and giggles.]
That is true even though I am just myself, my lord.

[Magolor giggles. . . . It isn't that he's just that kind-hearted, or can sense anything special about her. It's more that his own confidence is iron enough that he can hardly make sense of anything less in anyone. Besides, it is nicer to see people smiling and all.
And when she mentions her brother—he'd noticed that resemblance when she switched to video, though he hadn't been sure enough to blurt it out right away. Knowing now, though:]
Is your brother named Reyson, by any chance?
( video )
I would say life in itself is worth a celebration.
Re: ( video )
Brother... I do know that but even then... Especially with one as myself and the day of my birth.

It is but a day. Still, if it pains you, perhaps it is worthwhile to choose a different day.
no subject
What day should I choose then? And it is just myself so it no one should trouble themselves.

Celebrate one's birth? Usually with cake and a gather of friends and family to celebrate.
That sounds like fun. How many cakes have you eaten, Mu?

[After a long pause, he sighs heavily]
[Her lack of recognition is his answer. This city couldn't be hard enough as it is...]
...I'm not fond of sweets, so I don't have any.

Mu?
[It was simple and a way to probe what is wrong.]
I see, how did you celebrate your birthday then.

Of course, that's mainly a thing if people have 'em. I just usually spend it like it's any other day.
[He's still not entirely used to the idea of having them, but like... they'd missed his birthday anyway because of the Medjed nonsense back home.]
video
Friends throwing a party? That could make it fun.
[So he was another person who spends it like any other day. At least she is not really alone with this train of thought.]
It seems like people usually treat it as any other day. When is your birthday, my friend if I am not being too bold to ask.
no subject
[He chuckles.]
I don't mind you asking at all. It's July 23rd.
Video
If you can celebrate it, why wouldn't you? Even if it's on an otherwise sad day, it's not like you chose to be born on that day.

On my world, it is common for people for celebrate with a cake topped with as many candles atop as the person has lived in years. A traditional birthday song is sung, candles are blown out, and presents are given.

Celebrate your birth? Why?
