Accidental Video [Open]

[There's a loud clatter and the screen turns on. The feed is pointed straight up at the sky in some alley, before a ten-year-old boy's dirt-smudged face with white hair and blue eye's appears off center, looking worried. He sits down cross-legged on the ground, picks up the communicator, and now it's visible that he's wearing a very oversized (like several xl large adult sized) gray t-shirt like a tunic or dress with shorts and sneakers.]

Oh no! Kaiba-rhya's gonna kill me! Did I break it?

[He moves the screen really close to his face so he can look at the communicator but nothing looks wrong..? But..? He doesn't know? The screen really looks weird!]

Hello? Box? Are you okay?

[ooc: If anyone responds in text, they'll be able to hear the text being read aloud by the communicator to the boy.]

[A dirt-covered little gremlin child in awkward clothes… why, if it wasn’t for the white hair, she’d feel right back at home. Dot is all too familiar with the obstacle this modern technology poses and turns on her own video feed with a soft, reassuring smile. She sits prim and proper, decked in her favorite light brown walking suit and deep red hat.]

[He startles when there's suddenly a new face on the screen, eyes going wide and he nearly drops the communicator again.]

Why Ms. Box-rhya, I didn't know you could talk to me like this! I thought you could just read me stuff on the screen! Have you been listening whenever Ann or Kaiba-rhya call me?

Hmm? Oh! [A little laugh] No, no. I’m not the communicator. I'm simply another person talking to you through it, just like Kaiba and Ann. [Unfamiliar names. She needed to do more legwork, meet more of the city…]

In addition to functioning like a telephone, these devices allow you to see the person you’re speaking with as though you were face to face. It's marvelous, isn't it?

Oooh! I must've called you when I dropped it. I'm sorry! I didn't mean to bother you. I put it on this box and then this whirly thing started to spin and the whole thing vibrated and then it fell off.

[He turned the screen around until Dot was looking at some kind of industrial fan. He was lucky the communicator hadn't slipped in between the slats or worse- his arm!]

[Gladio wasn't paying much attention to his phone, until he was called over by Tony who pointed something out with an amused sort of smile.

When Gladio looked he saw he image of a strange kid on his phone. But he also saw the source of Tony's amusement.]

... I've been lookin for that shirt everywhere! Kid, where did you find my shirt?

How did he make the man go away? He bit his lip. Um.. this wasn't good. He remembered the man he stole the shirt from. How was he now looking at him on the box? He glanced around as though there might be a miracle the big man was talking to someone else. Nope. He was the only one there.

Maybe if he put the communicator down and.. um.. backed away slowly from it. He can't still see him, can he?]

[Gladio sighed and rubbed tiredly at his eyes, then dropped his hand to shoot Tony a glare for laughing at him. There was a rude gesture just off camera before Gladio walked out into the garden with the phone.]

Look. Not angry or anythin. Just... how did you even get that?

I uh.. I found it. D- do you want it back?

[He slipped it off and set the shirt down in front of the camera. He was one very skinny, pale kid with a little white gold scroll necklace.]

I'm sorry, please don't be mad.

Keep it. [Gladio sighed, frowning at the display. He'd said he wasn't angry, right? It wasn't his fault he looked the way he did. He wasn't trying to be scary or anything.] Put it back on before you catch a cold.

[Gladio dropped down and sat himself in the grass and the sun then offered up a smile.]

It's yours now. I've plenty. But isn't it kinda big on you?

[ It's the most cartoonishly ghostly voice Kyoko can manage, which is pretty cartoonishly ghostly. ]

[His eyes grow as wide as saucers and for a moment, he just stares at his communicator. He broke the box's soul??]

[He looks around the alley fretting over who he could go ask for help.]

[He put down the communicator and quickly bowed down next to it.]

[Devon flips on his video just to try and reassure his little friend that everything is okay. After everyone else screwing with him too Devon figures it’s also his best shot to calm Ghost down.]

You didn’t break it, don’t worry. If I can’t break these things I doubt you could by accident.

[He stares in amazement when he sees Devon's image appear and then he grins very relieved.]

I didn't?! Thank Gaia! Kaiba-rhya was going to be so mad! All these people started talking to me. Are you sure I didn't hurt the box's soul?

[And if he did get mad Devon would pay him back by siccing a pissed of dragon at him.]

There’s no soul in the box. It’s just a piece of technology. All man made and not alive in anyway. Completely replaceable.

[That was reassuring. He hopes Devon was right. However, the technology bit was confusing.]

Don't the natives have a soul? How come they have one and this doesn't?

[That’s… a very good question really. Devon isn’t sure how to answer that question. Souls aren’t something he knows a lot about.]

Maybe. I’m not sure if they do. They do have intelligence though, which is something the communicators don’t have.

At least it seems to be functioning- but you're going to have to be more careful with it. [One Seto Kaiba falsely assumed that the other functions would be known to the small child, because to him they were old hat.] We can save the killing until after I've seen it in person to see how scraped up it is.

[The reaction was somewhat predictable, and it wasn't something Kaiba had managed to convince Tiriaq to curtail yet. He really needn't apologize so profusely. It was a bit of relief to know that the only thing that had prompted the loud noise was the dropping of the tablet.]

[Drawing in a breath he proceeded to explain why the tablet was important in case the other didn't fully understand]

We covered some of the tablets functions such as storing what passes for currency here, but it has other uses, and that's why you should keep it with you at all times, and protect it. The way we're communicating over it now could make all the difference is something were to happen to you.

If you ever need help, you can use this device to call for it. [See where he's going with this? Though as he spoke, Kaiba was already thinking that it might be more beneficial to adapt an earpiece or a comm link that was more portable. Maybe he should get right on that...]

[Tilting his head to one side, he tried to make out the scenery in the background to see if it was something he recognized. If the kid didn't tell him the location, he could probably use the tablet to access the gps info]
