Good afternoon! I come to you today with two questions.

First, or those of you who have come from a time or world significantly different from this one, what has helped you to become accustomed to said differences?

As to the second question... What wines available on this star would you recommend? Dry, red wines are preferred, but if there are any with particularly strong flavors I humbly request you include them as well, even if you would not necessarily claim them to be the best of the batch.

There is, however, one small problem: the wine is to be shared, and I fear that in the face of such adorable creatures, I may never leave.

How different was your world?

Very. We did not have any of the devices common to this star, for instance. Magic was of greater importance and focus, you see. And then there are multiple cultural differences to address.

[A pause.]

Ah, but I do hope I'm not coming across as judgmental. It's just quite a bit to take in is all.

My world was the opposite! Magic wasn't real over there, so... but this place is kinda a mix of the two, I guess!

The new quirks and the whole "power" of hugging is super new.

'Tis quite a unique situation for me as well. Oft have I heard poems and plays discussing the power of love, but never did I imagine them meaning it so literally.

Of course, it isn't as though this is exactly the same as that, either.

Trying something new aside, you could at least inquire based on your own preferences as well.

And if you're having difficulty acclimating, you could ask Teo for assistance. His world seemingly doesn't have magic, but despite that he seems familiar with much of the technology here.

As for the technology, I do intend to impose upon Teo from time to time, but I am more interested in the acclimation process than the solution at the moment.

Seems like Era's already got you set on the wine, so I'll poke at the latter. But seconding the Affurgato rec!

It wasn't so much this one, but back when I traveled to different worlds as a job, good company and a talent for versatility were the best tools for adapting to each one. Some worlds came with extra luxuries, others had none at all. Some just straight-up chomp your head off! The universe is a weird place. But stay on your toes, find the essentials for living, and the rest will come together over time.

How fascinating! You've been to that many places? If it's not too much of an imposition to ask, would you mind telling me about some of them? Just appearing on one has been such an adventure that I can scarce imagine seeing multiple.

It does sound as though I’ve been beaten to the punch on matters of wine, but that’s just as well. Lup and Era alike would have better access to a more interesting variety.

But to your initial question…hm. Well, I find the easiest way to acclimate is to find those willing to answer questions some might consider obvious. This place is entirely different from where and when I initially lived, but a little patience on my part and that of others has proven invaluable.

It is, as they say, a virtue. Especially when it comes to one more than willing to strain the bounds of willingness when the need for answers arises.

Luckily, everyone has been more than cooperative, so such methods haven't been necessary.

While I cannot offer more suggestions as to those to be found on this world than Era has, I would be willing to offer some from our own world. Or those which followed.

[In fairness, it's hardly as if Hythlodaeus is likely to be familiar with any culture save their own, now long since vanished - and even his best attempts at those varieties is likely to fall short of the mark. But neither is there any harm in asking, he figures.]

I've no doubt that Lup has already regaled you with what is necessary.

As for adapting... well, that might all depend on who you arrive here with, and your general personality. The more familiarity one has around them, the easier it might become to take in new circumstances with mindfulness instead of disillusion or panic. Of course, all things take time, and if it is unexpected, or the place one finds themselves in is harsh or unforgiving, it might be a different experience altogether.

Ha... How very true. The welcoming atmosphere has certainly been a help, and there is something to be said for having familiar faces to rely upon.

Oh? I suppose that greatly depends on which experience you refer to.

[ Complex histories would do that, and it is always wise to be cautious around strangers when sharing, though there's a thoughtful cast to her words. ]

In many ways I am no stranger to the existence of other planets and cultures, as traveling the stars was something of a... given back there, though admittedly my ability to appreciate them was severely dampened for a time, to... put it lightly. In the case of arriving here, I was fortunate enough to have had... time to adjust to drastic lifestyle changes, as well as family and familiar faces to remind me of those priorities. There are some frustrations over the lack of control in some instances, when it comes to certain situations here, but that would apply to anyone's experience.
